Smart Solutions from an Economist and Problem Solver
I envision a 7th District where our citizens are healthy and people have good-paying jobs and thriving businesses that allow all citizens to take care of themselves and their families.
While many are working hard to make ends meet, most people don’t have money to save and invest in a better future for the next generation. People are just getting by.
There needs to be a bridge: a way for people to get from where they are–full of drive, promise and potential–to where we all know they can be.
This is the American dream.
In the next two years, Congress will be deciding on things that help struggling and middle-class families: minimum wage, student loan debt relief, access to quality daycare, and protecting affordable health care and social security.
As your congresswoman, I will fight to protect and promote an agenda that improves your life. In order to get people through these tough times, we have to create a country where people can thrive because they are able to create wealth for themselves by investing in things like education, business, and a home.
I will fight to:
Protect Affordable Health Care & Social Security
It’s true that “health is wealth.” If our bodies aren’t healthy, then we aren’t able to get a secure job, go to work, start a business, and generate income and wealth for ourselves and our families. If we aren’t healthy, we can’t get the education needed to secure a well-paying job or future.
Because of Democratic changes, for the first time, insurance companies will not be allowed to drop coverage for those with pre-existing conditions, kick people off their plan when they get sick or charge women higher premiums than men for the same coverage.
For the first time, young people who are 26 years or under can stay on their parents insurance and Medicaid has been expanded to those at the lowest income levels in those states that decided to move forward with expansion.
After a lifetime of work, Americans should be able to retire with dignity and security. That’s why it’s important for us to make sure that Social Security is protected for seniors and for future generations.
I will work to protect key provisions of the Affordable Care Act as well as:
- Restructure Health Care Delivery System for Veterans
- Expand Medicaid
- Protect Medicare and Ensure No Reduction in Benefits
- Protect Social Security
Put Americans Back to Work in Good-Paying Jobs
Right now the work environment does not create enough income or jobs for Americans. Most locally-owned businesses are not given the support they need to expand. Most low-wage earners are working 40 hours or more a week and still don’t earn enough money to meet their basic needs.
Even middle-class workers who are making more than the minimum wage don’t have access to paid sick leave that will allow then to care for themselves or their families in the event of a health emergency. If something catastrophic happens, most people don’t have enough savings to take care of themselves, a sick child or parent.
I will work to ensure that Americans are able to get and keep good-paying jobs. I will also work to:
- Help Locally-owned Businesses Expand
- Encourage Employee Ownership and Profit-sharing
- Increase the Federal Minimum Wage
- Achieve Pay Equity for Women
- Grow the Middle Class and Reduce their Tax Burden
- Provide Workplace Flexibility
- Set Federal Assistance to the Self-Sufficiency Standard
- Expand Access to Affordable Childcare
- Protect Pregnant Workers and New Mothers
- Provide Paid Family and Medical Leave for All Workers
- Provide Earned Paid Sick Leave for All Workers
- Expand Unemployment Insurance
Provide World Class Education & Job Training
